The Annual Travel Freeze: Managing T&E Spend Without Impacting the Business

The Q4 corporate travel freeze is a ritual at many companies. It’s frequently used as a relatively painless mechanism to save money. And it’s not difficult to see why travel budgets are amongst the first to be cut when costs need to be reduced. Travel and expense (T&E) is often the second largest controllable expense on the balance sheet after payroll. Furthermore, many organizations spend hundreds of millions of dollars on business travel every year, with hardly any way to measure return on investment (ROI).

This session will cover how CFOs can use data science to better understand the ROI that travel generates for their business – in terms of operations, revenue streams and human impact – allowing them to make smarter decisions when managing travel budgets.

The New Age of Connected Planning

To achieve their financial objectives, some companies prioritize revenue growth while others focus on better asset utilization or workforce efficiency. But no matter what a company’s current strategy is, the first and fundamental step in creating a connected planning framework is to ensure the business drivers underpinning that strategy are embedded in the financial and operational planning models used elsewhere in the business. That connects strategy to execution, which allows business leaders to have an informed debate about how quickly the strategy can be implemented and how best to go about it.

So, for instance, for a B2B business that is intent on rapidly growing revenue, some of the sales drivers that need to be explored and managed are headcount, productivity, and win rates. Collaborating and having an informed debate around data-driven models help business leaders understand whether a strategy is realistic and achievable, what previously unidentified constraints might exist in the organization, and how best to translate top-down strategy into short-term tactics.

The idea to reduce the gap between Planning & Execution to ‘Zero’.

Panel: The Role of the CFO in M&A Decision Making - Is the Change Really Worth it?

Hence often we raise a question in our head - Is it really worth the pain? Are we better off without the M&A?
