Michael Street

Innovation Manager, NCI Agency
NATO

Michael Street works in the Service Strategy Directorate of the NCI Agency, with responsibility for communication systems. Service Strategy sets the technical direction of NATO C3 systems throughout their lifecycle. He also sits on NCI Agency’s contracts award board - which oversees all NATO international procurement of C3 and C4ISR capability - as the technical advisor. Michael has led projects delivering secure communications to users in a number of NATO operations (in SFOR, KFOR and ISAF) and enhanced the interoperability of early NATO response forces (NRF). He has led work to investigate and exploit SDR technology within NATO; developing the NATO tactical wireless architecture, producing SDR versions of current NATO radio standards and exploiting commercial SDR technology to support the development of the NATO future tactical waveform. While investigating wireless COTS technology he introduced secure GSM to NATO operations - and introduced GSM operators to the problems of military security. This led to the multi-national secure communication interoperability protocol (SCIP) programme, providing NATOs future, network-agnostic, secure voice equipment, where he co-chaired the SCIP test and integration working group and established the SCIP test facility at NC3A.
