Dr. L. Miguel Encarnação

Dr. L. Miguel Encarnação has been a cross-industry strategic leader in innovation and digital transformation for nearly two decades. He is currently a professor of practice in management sciences as well as an adjunct professor of computer science at The University of Iowa, and has been an award-winning innovation executive, the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications magazine, and the author of numerous contributions to peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Miguel holds BS, MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science with an emphasis on Human-Computer Interaction, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Data Visualization, Machine Learning and AI, a combination of interests that gave rise to his longtime passion for creating data literacy and corporate data cultures. In recent years, Miguel occupied innovation and executive leadership positions as Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of The QED Group in the International Development sector and Chief Innovation Officer of ACT Inc. in the educational assessment field. Prior to joining ACT, Miguel directed emerging technology innovation in healthcare at Fortune 100 Humana Inc., founded and directed a non-profit vocational school of higher education, and spear-headed advanced applied technology R&D and international for-profit spin-off activities at the Fraunhofer Society.
