David Cope

Director of Strategy & External Affairs
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

David is responsible for enabling all of Kew to achieve the objectives set out in our Corporate Strategy Unlocking Why Plants and Fungi Matter. He leads his team to build Kew’s external profile and reputation across our stakeholders, lead on strategy development, business planning and performance management, and ensure the effective governance of Kew. David joined Kew in 2013 after eight years working in a variety of change management, strategy, analysis, performance improvement and policy roles in UK central government. David trained as a biologist, conducting his PhD and postdoctoral research on the population dynamics and conservation of herbivores. He is a Governor at Richmond upon Thames College, a Policy Fellow at Cambridge University and is passionate about the positive impact of sport on individuals and society.
